Site Updates

May 14th, 2007

So, after thorough checking of all the files, it appears that almost all files from 3/5 to 5/6 were corrupted by the drive failure.  We have removed all references to these files in the system, so there should be no more 404 errors.

We will be instituting backup and failover in the next few days.  Watch this space.

Thanks,

Chris

We’re Back!

May 10th, 2007

Okay, we are back and live.  We are still copying files from the old server, so not all will be available until probably 4 am California time, but about 2/3 of the files are on the server now.  We managed to save almost all the files, quite a feat as the drives were failing.

Sorry for the downtime, we will implement mirroring and failover for the site in the next 10 days.  Thanks for your support and patience!

Hi all,

We have gotten all the parts for the new server and are installing now.  I am hoping for completion tonight.

For those of you affected by the site downtime, I would like to offer you free premium membership for 3 months to make up for this downtime.  For those of you that have purchased a premium membership, I will extend your membership by three months.   Again, our apologies.

As soon as we have gotten the site fully functional, we will be implemented mirroring and failover systems so that we will not have this situation again.  Thanks for your support.

Hi all,

The site ownership has changed as of May 4th.  I hope to make Filecrunch.com an even better site that services your needs.
Unfortunately, on May 5th the main file server had a problem with the RAID controller failing.  This caused the storage to become “read only” and the webserver to crash.  We cannot restart at this point.  We have to move to a new machine, which should hopefully be constructed and put online tomorrow.  The good news is that the machine will be much more powerful and should be able to serve more files at a higher rate.

I am sorry about this problem, I know many of you have files on this server.  I’ve owned the site for only a couple of days, so I am working as fast as I can to get the site up and stabilized.  In the future we will have a failover system in case something like this happens again.  Gan built a really good site and community, and I hope to continue his success.

Thanks for your patience.
